Right out of the box, the ZP3 makes a strong impression. Fosi has been steadily improving its build quality, and this unit feels like a significant step up.
Build Quality and Aesthetics The chassis is a solid, unibody aluminum alloy construction that feels dense and substantial in the hand. Fosi claims this all-metal build provides superior shielding from interference, and based on the heft and seamless construction, I believe it.
Fosi Audio’s first attempt into planar magnetic headphones is nothing short of a statement. With the i5, they’ve delivered a headphone that doesn’t just punch above its weight, it flirts with electrostatic-like clarity, but with a livelier, more grounded character.
The sound is fast and highly detailed, but never sterile. There’s an effortless transparency to the mids, allowing vocals and acoustic instruments to breathe in a natural, three-dimensional space.
The build quality is excellent, metal chassis, solid weight, and well-finished aluminum housing. The K7 feels durable and premium in hand. The knob dials feel great. I’ve grown to really like them after about 10 days of daily use. The stepped motion feels intentional and precise, and I love how solid the clicks feel when turning or pressing them.
Connectivity is one of the K7’s strong points: USB, coax, optical, Bluetooth, RCA out, and mic input. The Bypass button provides a clean, uncolored signal for referencing.
This DAC is "tuned" to please most users. It's not analytical or high-resolution, but it "rounds things out" in a way that strikes a balance between being engaging and presenting the soundstage coherently and without noise. Its extensive connectivity ensures integration into complex systems, allowing it to function excellently as both a DAC and a preamp. I recommend using the XLR output for amplifier use and the RCA output for headphone amplifiers; I believe this is the best possible combination. I was very pleased with the results obtained from it, making it ideal for use with a PC.
