It works very well!

It was my first turn table in many many many years, and since I also got it from Fosi, it was only right to get the phono pre amp here as well.

I have been pleased with the sound and just very transparent nature of this little device.

The many features in terms of gain are very welcoming for one looking to later upgrade.

Overall , I have no complaints and recommend it fully.

Satisfaction with my Box X5

I purchased the Box X5 phono pre-amp together with the LUNA3 turntable. The Box X5 arrived promptly while I had to wait a couple of weeks for the LUNA3. Once the turntable arrived I unboxed everything. All the components arrived in excellent condition. Installation of the Box X5 and turntable was simple. My only comment is that the ground post is not where I would have expected it, but I’m sure Fosi has their reasons. The RCA cord supplied with the turntable included the grounding wire and there was sufficient length for it to easily bridge the distance to the terminal.
I feel the sound quality of the LUNA3 turntable and Box X5 phono pre-amp, when played through my ZP3 preamplifier and ZA3 stereo amplifier into my Polk Audio bookshelf speakers and Sony subwoofer, is outstanding. I am delighted with my remarkably economical Hi-Fi system! I doubt this is the end of my journey, but this is a sweet spot to sit back and enjoy for a good while.

Great quality phono preamp

It's a solid, good sounding phono preamp. My only gripe maybe is that it's capacitance is around 150pF, so I have to be cautious with the phono interconnect to not affect the sound of my Technics SL-100c and the original VM95c and my new VM540ML cartridge. It would be nice to have a lower value, but I could manage to use a 30cm low cap cable and it sounds exceptional.

Big sound in a small package

This is a great phono stage for its price. If youre looking for just great sound to actively listen to music on your turntable through good speakers, this is it. If you deem yourself an audiophile (you know, the pretentious type), this product still hits way above its weight and produces great sound for you too. Please dont be fooled, this is really all one needs to achieve very, very, good sound from their music (given they have a decent setup). But if you’re searching for exceptional, heavenly, sonic accuracy (which is a farce), a wide soundstage, airiness, and bragging rights, then throw a couple thousand dollars at another phono stage so you can test ad nauseum the quality of your equipment rather than enjoy good music. Fosi X5, Great product.

Fosi Audio Box X5

Partnered this with a Rega Planar 3 RS and an Arcam A5+, I was floored by what I was hearing! Listening to Tears in Heaven from Eric Clapton Unplugged, I had to listen to it a second time. I was hearing things I’d never heard before and had the sensation they were in the room with me. I can definitely recommend one.

Phono Preamp

A nice litte preamp that does what it should, fits well with the rest of my stack, i even designed and 3D printed a small shelf that will be available at printables.
The only bad thing is that the powerbrick feels like the old transformer kind, and not a switched power supply.

What else?

One Fosi phono preamp x5 is used in MM mode with LP12 Basik/Adikt in a vintage system. It is detailed, balanced and engaging.

The other x5 is used in MC mode with LP12 Akurate/DL-103 in a multi-amplified analog system, parallel to LP12 Klimax/DL-103 with embedded preamp. I recently moved to DL-103 because (despite its conical stylus) this low signal cartridge brings superior balance, dynamics and life-like musical presentation. With this cartridge the x5 provides results simply as good as my other preamp 20 times more expensive.
A shocking but extremely good news!

Note: Icould find no test/review of the x5 in MC mode on the web but for whom it may concern this preamp if extremely silent.

Recently got this for my vinyl setup and it did as advertised and better. The quality was also pretty good.

Great Phono Preamp

My Audio Technica TT has a built in phono preamp which gets the job done. However, the audio tends to sound low and diminished at times depending on the music style. I bought the X5 to bump the gain just a hair to my speaker amp and man it does not disappoint. It gives me exactly the bump my TT needed. Sound quality is fantastic with a beautiful soundstage. The ground attachment is perfect. I don’t have any hum/static/distortion. I would buy the X5 again and highly recommend it. Cheers!

Immaculate!!

Audiophile pre here, no joke. I demoed a Clearaudio Nano, and a Schiit Mani and the X5 buried them both. This pre is the audiophile's little secret. I bought two ..one as a backup because of the great price. Highly recommend the X5, for even the most demanding applications.

Transformer!

The Box X5 completely transformed the sound of my Audio Technica turntable. Everything felt like it was brought to life. Better lows, mids and highs with a broader sound.

I can totally recommend this preamplifier. My Fosi Luna Phono sounds amazing with that preamp.

The delivery in general took some time and worst of all was FedEx.

I upgraded from a Box 1 to a Box 5 and glad that I did. Even thought my hearing is not the best, I could still hear the difference. More clarity and definition. Get one if you can't afford those boutique phono preamps.

Like hearing my records for the first time all over again.

I was new to this vinyl thing and not swimming in cash. I was listening to vinyl but not getting the experience I was told about. So I began a quest to figure out how I could improve my sound without breaking the bank. I knew changing my stylus was something I needed to do. I started with an Ortofon 2M Red then upgraded to the 2M Blue. I noticed an improvement. Next was to choose a pre-amp. But which one in a sea of pre-amps ranging from budget to I'll have to sell a kidney. In my journeys through the interwebs one name was mentioned over and over, Fosi. Then it was hearing of the Box X5. One review after another stating the same thing, "Nothing this good should be this price." What I heard was the most bang for your buck. This is music to my ears. So I took the Fosi plunge. WOW!!! By far the best purchase that made the most drastic difference in my listening experience. To say it was an improvement is the understatement of a lifetime. Weight, clear, depth separation all those words audiophiles go on about I was finally hearing without paying an arm and a leg. I have since become evangelical about Fosi, spreading the good word to all who will listen(and some who'd rather not). Since buying it I come home and listen to at least one record a day because as my heading states it like hearing them for the first time all over again. ALL HAIL FOSI AND ITS BOX X5!!!!!!

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to use it yet, so I can't give a more thorough opinion, because first I have to renovate my approximately 50-year-old Lenco turntable. Perfect little phono amp

Great little device. The only Fosi device where I don’t recommend going the upgrade path. I have tried a bunch of OpAmps, none of them sounded as good as the NE5532P that comes with it. The only upgrade that I can recommend is replacing it with NE5532AP, this version guarantees the max low noise specs. It matters if you plan to use MC cartridge. And for those that want to know, because of the fact that the X5 is so quiet it drives my Denon DL-103R’s 0.3mV quite nicely at 56db gain!
